Heisters Web Pilot

In case you haven’t gotten to see it, yet.  Here’s a standalone web pilot that I would love for you to watch (standalone being a nice way to say there probably won’t be a second episode).  In prepping for the shoot, I found a character archetype that I would LOVE to revisit over and over through my career.  The leader of a group of thieves that heist things.  This is one of Robert Redford’s three characters he plays, and something George Clooney tackled in Ocean’s Eleven through Ocean’s Thirty.

What is your favorite heist movie of all time? (obviously other than the short one you can watch below.

Filmed by those people at Boiling Sky Films

It was also a blast working with the energetic Chris Prine of Escape Pod Films, the funny-yet-honest Aldous Davidson, and the quick-witted Matt “cover your mouth when you” Koff

Me as Brice in HEISTERS.  Notice the Redford sideburns?  and the ever-so slight Clooney smirk?

The cast and the director on location.

On Set for The Joke

Well. I am in upstate New York. A place called Hunter Mountain. It’s a ski resort with mountains and snow and now actors and cameras and crew people.

The Joke is a short based off a chekov short story of the same name.

We drove up yesterday. Meeting at 6am! Early early morning. We drove up through a really rundown town that apparantly used to be a weekend getaway for the mob sting prohibition. Quite the opposite now adays.

We keep driving – me grabbing as much shuteye as possible.

Getting to this amazing little train station with so much character. The locations for this, though fairly local, should look really cool.

Today it is snow, rain, fun and pain. Wish I could tell more – but don’t want to spoil the story.

Basically I look really awesome in 1989 attire.

The crew is great fun. Kinda like a family on crack.

And it took me three days to write this post. On my way to the final location. Just refueled the van and myself – coke Zero (maybe I will get an endorsement fee?)

I think it will b a visually beautiful little film. So keep on the lookout.

The Penny: One more day of filming (for Brian and me)

The Penny: One more day of filming (for Brian and me) Sitting on set, inside. All week has been interior scenes which has been a woderful contrast to the bitter cold of weeks past. Apparently in film there is no comfortable temperature… You are either having your toes fall off from frostbite OR suffering from heat exhaustion.

Since I am trying to avoid spoilers, I will summarize some of the things I have learned this week… Followed by the dramatic new chapter in Kyle and brian’s “eating healthy and working out plan”.

-acting in scenes where you have to eat never ends well. Often you come out of it with 200% your daily sodium and a string distaste for whatever your character ate in the scene.

-try to memorize your lines before you start filming the scene.

-no matter what, you should take a nap before your 11pm call.

-I love acting, and I am itching for my next project.

-scenes with two pages of dialogue can be filmed in like half an hour… “simple” scenes with a hand knocking on a door can take hours.

-if you have a scene where your character is just waking up for the day, it is totally a good chance to grab some Z’s

AND NOW for the next installment of Kyle and Brian’s “workout and eat healthy regime”!
It was the beginning of the end. An end to a beginning. The time was 7am. As others were getting up for their work day… Brian and I were still on set. Think: zombies in front of cameras… Not filming a zombie movie.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see Brian sneak around to the back. Back where the snack table is setup. Now let me give you a better description of the golden cornucopia that is the snack table: fruits and candies and coffees and granola bars and homemade desserts that challenge those of Miss Crocker herself.

I decide to follow Brian (secretly) to see what he could be up to. Is he making himself a tea? Maybe half an apple? That’s when I witnessed it. Brian had a sloppy joe in one hand and two fudge cookie brownies in the other.

We had been able to remain strong for so long. But unfortunately when I saw brian eat those tasty tasty treats… I ate some of them too. And since then we have been eating treats for meals and skipping workouts.

My only hope is that we both take away from this something along the lines of trusting ourselves to eat healthy and not to watch your friends eat tasty tasty treats.

The end of the movie (but not the end of the shoot)

It’s roughly 3:30 in the morning, been shooting for hours, hyped up on multiple types of caffiene, hanging out at the final location.

They have split up the filming of the last scene into three nights (late nights!) of filming. We have already filmed the beginning, tonight (this morning) is the end, and Monday will be the middle.

Everyone seems to be in decent spirits and the footage looks great. And unrelated to acting: a fellow actor named Dan brought us venizen to eat (shaped like salami).

And while we aren’t shooting, we have to sit next to the über-fresh Krispy Kreme donuts. I like to call it the box of temptation. It is taking all of my willpower to not eat one (or twelve)

Apparently at three in the morning, all I can blog about is food.

More later,
Kyle

And just a small note from me, Brian, my friend Mr. Mark Cade came in town to visit and hang out on set – and cool enough they needed another extra – so he got costumed up and did it. Just amazing to be working on set with some of my best friends.

Week Two: Catch-Up

Kyle talking:
Sorry it has been a few days since an actual post. We have been on a surreal shooting schedule all week. Basically shooting from 11pm til 5 or 6 in the morning. When your morning jog happens during sunset, you sort of wonder what the heck is going on.
A couple things that happened this week:

We are keeping hush-hush about stuff we have been filming… so I now talk to you about Brian working out.

the other day, brian and I were doing our shoulder exercises… And , well, quite frankly I have no problem telling the world this: Brian does shoulder presses like Michael Flatley on hot coals. He is the lord of the dance when it comes to working out. In this particular moment as he was raising our water-filled milk jugs over his head, his legs were dancing around like MC hammer at a Christmas party. To brian credit, he was able to do more reps with this technique. And to my credit, I got a good abs workout from laughing at him.
